Solemnity: These are the greatest feasts of the Church. Some examples of Solemnity are Easter Sunday, Pentecost and the assumption of our lord.
Feast: These are celebrations of important events in Jesus and Mary’s lives. Prominent saints are recalled on their allocated feast days. Some examples are John the Evangelist and the Visitation.
Memorial: These are mainly saints days. Some are obligatory, for saints of universal significance. Others are optional, for a saint revered and known in one region or community. Some examples are Obligatory: St John Chrysostom. Optional: St Margaret Mary Alacoque
